After the Scottish transgender golfer Hailey Davidson, 30, won the NXXT Women’s Classic tournament, the English television personality Piers Morgan ripped into her on X, calling it “another shameful farce.” Notably, the 60-year-old has said in the past that his issue with the participation of trans athletes in women’s sports is mainly related to its implication on women’s rights.

It was on Wednesday, January 17, when Hailey Davidson shot a one-over-73 card to end the three-round tournament with a +4 scoreline at the NXXT Women’s Classic at the Mission Inn Resort and Club, on the outskirts of Orlando. She was three shots down behind with two holes to go at one stage before managing to force a playoff win in the tournament after her stunning play on the 18th and the final hole.

The victory for Hailey Davidson increased her chances to reach the LPGA Tour, and a post about it from the New York Times on their official X account prompted a reaction from Piers Morgan. He took to his official X account to share the post from the American newspaper, captioning it, “another shameful farce.”

In November of 2023, Piers Morgan was quoted as saying about his thought process behind disliking trans athletes in women’s sports, “I actually think, right now, every female competitor in women’s sport in the world should just refuse to compete against trans athletes. Not because they’re transphobic, because they want to protect women’s rights to fairness. And if they all did that one day, this ends.”

He added, “In every sport now you’re seeing this creeping erosion of women’s rights to fairness and equality. I have no problem with trans people. People want to transition or identify as something they weren't born as, fine. But what you can’t do in your pursuit of your own rights to fairness and quality is erode the rights of women’s fairness and equality rights. And that’s what we’re seeing and it has to stop.”

Moreover, the NXXT Golf, the professional women’s golf tour has labelled itself as an entity for “elevating women’s golf.” As per the Epson Tour’s website, who are partnered with NXXT Golf, their “tour’s mission is to prepare the world’s best young women professional golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour.”
