Defending champions Brisbane Heat kickstarted their Big Bash League 2024-25 campaign with a convincing eight-wicket win over Melbourne Stars in match number four of the season at Melbourne Cricket Ground. For Brisbane, Jimmy Peirson played a match-winning knock of 72*(56) to guide his team to a victory. With this, Melbourne Stars also went on to lose two consecutive matches in BBL 2024-25.
Melbourne Stars posted a total of 162/6 in their 20 overs. In reply, Brisbane Heat chased the winning target in 18.1 overs losing two wickets. Batting first, Melbourne lost opener Thomas Rogers (1 off 4) at the score of 19 runs in 2.1 overs. After that, Joe Clarke and Sam Harper put up a partnership of 54 runs for the second wicket. Clarke got out after scoring 32(23) runs with two boundaries while Harper top scored with 46(36) hitting four fours and a six.
Jimmy Peirson scored unbeaten to take Brisbane Heat home
For Melbourne Stars, skipper Marcus Stoinis also contributed with 26(17) runs while Beau Webster gave finishing touches with an unbeaten 28*(19) runs. For Brisbane Heat, Xavier Bartlett registered figure of 3/25, while Tom Whiteney, Matthew Kuhnemann and Mitchell Swepson scalped a wicket each.
Chasing the winning target, Brisbane Heat got a great start as Jimmy Peirson and Jack Wood put up an opening partnership of 55 runs in 7.2 overs. Wood got out after scoring 27(21) runs with three fours and a maximum. Peirson added 30 runs more with Matt Renshaw for the second wicket. After that, Peirson and Max Bryant put up an unbeaten partnership of 78 runs as Brisbane chased the target with 11 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand. Jimmy Peirson smashed five fours and two sixes in his knock of 72* runs, while Bryant remained unbeaten on 36*(22) runs with three fours and a six.
