In the first match of blockbuster IPL 2025 Sunday (March 30), Australian and Delhi Capitals (DC) speedster starred with a brilliant five-wicket haul at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Starc, who is playing only his second match for DC after being bought for INR 11.75 Crore at the mega auction last year, finished with the figures of 5/35 in 3.4 overs.
Coming into the match with three wickets already to his name, he got five in DC’s match, thus becoming only the second DC bowler to have taken a fifer in IPL history after Amit Mishra, who took 5/17 for Delhi Daredevils (now DC) in a match against defunked Deccan Chargers in IPL 2008.
Mitchell Starc completes 200 T20 wickets; gets first fifer in T20 cricket
Starc also became the first overseas player to pick a fifer for DC whereas he is fourth from Australia after James Faulkner, Andrew Tye and Adam Zampa to pick a five-wicket haul. Coming into this game with just four shy to 200 T20 wickets, harshal Patel’s wicket got him to this feat, followed by Wiaan Mulder’s wicket.
Speaking of the match, after winning the toss, the Pat Cummins-led SRH were bundled out for the score of 163 in 18.4 overs. However, Aniket Verma was the top-scorer for the side, his innings was overshadowed by Mitchell Starc’s fifer. The DC lineup chased the below par total with ease in 16 overs to register comfortable seven-wicket win at their second home.
