Bengal opener Sudip Chatterjee began his side’s innings on a fiery note as the batter completed a ton on day 1 of Ranji Trophy 2024 clash against Uttar Pradesh. In the 13th clash of the ongoing domestic tournament, Anustup Majumdar-led Bengal locked horns with Uttar Pradesh, led by Aryan Juyal at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Bengal won the toss and invited the rivals to field first. 

Sudip Chatterjee, who opened Bengal’s innings with Abhimanyu Easwaran, scored a ton. The 32-year-old utilised 189 deliveries to post a ton. The Barasat-native went on to post a total of 116 runs from 227 deliveries with a combination of nine boundaries and one maximum at a strike rate of 51.10. He was followed by Sudip Kumar Gharami, who scored 90 runs to the overall total in 161 deliveries, while hitting 11 boundaries and one six. By the end of Day 1, Bengal posted 269 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 82 overs. 

Vipraj Nigam scalps four wickets for Uttar Pradesh on Day 1 of Ranji Trophy match against Bengal

The first day of the match saw Uttar Pradesh bowler Vipraj Nigam scalping four wickets on day 1 for his side. Nigam first picked the wicket of Sudip Kumar Gharami in the 62nd over, and forced him to walk back just before he was about to hit a century. He then went on to dismiss Anustup Majumdar in the 64th over. The Bengal skipper walked back after scoring only one run. 

He then went on to dismiss Indian veteran Wriddhiman Saha, who returned back to the pavilion for a six-ball duck in the 68th over. Writtick Chatterjee was his fourth success who was dismissed for 12 off 24 deliveries in the 89th over. Not only this, but he was also the reason behind Abhishek Porel’s run-out dismissal.
