Indian wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson made a big revelation regarding the 2024 T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa in Barbados on June 29. The right-hander revealed that there was a chance for him to feature in the Indian playing XI in the title, but the line up was changed just 10 minutes before the toss. Samson said that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma talked to him personally ahead of the final and explained to him the situation.
Sanju Samson was a part of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup this year. However, he didn’t get to play a single game in the whole tournament. The wicketkeeper was warming up ahead of the big final in Barbados before Rohit Sharma came to him personally and revealed that he won’t be a part of the playing XI. Notably, India won that game by seven runs in the end and clinched an ICC title after 11 years.
I was like, no worries: Sanju Samson on getting snubbed from T20 World Cup final playing XI
Sanju Samson understood the decision by the team management ahead of the high stake clash against South Africa. However, the wicketkeeper batter also expressed his disappointment for not getting to play in the World Cup final under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. "I had a chance to play the final. I was told to stay ready. I was ready. However, they decided before the toss that we would go with the same team. I was like, no worries. I was in that type of mood,” Samson said as quoted in India Today.
"I told him (Rohit), 'I will have a regret; I could not play a World Cup final with a leader like you.' This will be a regret in my heart that I missed a World Cup final with a leader like Rohit Sharma,” he further added.
