Former Indian fast bowler and cricket commentator S Sreesanth has demanded his former IPL franchise, Kochi Tuskers Kerala to pay its players since the t eam was defunct after just one year in the tournament. KTK played just one season in the IPL, in 2011, and was terminated the following year.
Kochi Tuskers were expelled from the IPL by the BCCI for failing to make an annual payment of INR 155.3 crores in 2011. Despite finishing eighth that season, the franchise, which was acquired for a staggering INR 1550 crore was terminated due to its failure to fulfil the bank guarantee obligation.
They still haven't: Sreesanth on Kochi Tuskers not playing its players
Discussing the Tuskers, S Sreesanth spoke about how the franchise didn't pay its players till now. Sreesanth, on the Ranveer Show, said, "They still haven't. You should get Muralitharan sır (Muttrah Muralitharan), you should get. Mahela (Mahela Jayawardene) and in your show, they will only tell you. McCullum was also there, and Jadeja added."
"Please guys, BCCI has literally paid you, I think. Please pay us...anyway whenever you're paying, remember the 18% interest every year. I feel by the team my kid gets married, we will definitely receive the money (laughs). The team was supposed to be three years, and the team got terminated in the first year. I think no one has spoken about it. Even now when the players meet, they talk about it," he added.
Continuing on the KTK chapter, Rendezvous Sports World, one of the franchise owners, filed a case against the BCCI in the Bombay High Court which resulted in BCCI paying them INR 550 crore. However, a report in 2012 revealed that some cricketers had yet to receive 30 to 40 per cent of their promised payments.
