After day one was washed out due to rain, India defeated Prime Minister's XI by six wickets on day two of the pink ball warm-up match at Manuka Oval in Canberra, which was turned into a 50-overs a side contest. The two day practice game was scheduled ahead of the second day-night Test between Australia and India, which will be played at Adelaide Oval from November 6 to 10. India are already 1-0 up in the five-match Test series after a massive 295-run in the first Test in Perth.
With a gap of 10 days between the two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India tried their bench strength in the practice game against Prime Minister's XI along with giving a game to the returning skipper Rohit Sharma. With a maximum of 50 overs for both sides, Prime Ministers XI were bowled out for 240 runs in 43.2 overs after the rains arrived, which turned it into a 46 overs a side contest. Opener Sam Konstas shone with a knock of 107(97) runs, hitting 14 fours and a maximum. For India, Harshit Rana registered figures of 4/44.
Shubman Gill scores half-century ahead of comeback in 2nd BGT Test
Coming to chase the winning target, India got a good start as Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul put up an opening partnership of 75 runs. Jaiswal got out after scoring 45(59) runs with nine boundaries. After a few overs, KL Rahul was retired not out after scoring 27(44), while skipper Rohit Sharma, who came to bat at number four could only score three runs. After that, Shubman Gill, who missed the first Test due to an injured thumb, showed impressive form ahead of the return in the second Test in Adelaide.
Shubman Gill retired not out after a well-made 50(62) runs with seven boundaries. He got support from Nitish Kumar Reddy, who got out after scoring 42(32) runs. India achieved the target of 241 runs in 42.5 overs with six wickets in hand but still decided to bat till the end of 46 overs. At the end of 46 overs, India finished on 257/5 with Washington Sundar remaining unbeaten on 42*(36) runs.
