Indian shuttler PV Sindhu, who entered the semifinal of the Denmark Open 2023 after a comfortable win over World No. 19 Supanida Katethong, lost her semis clash against Spain’s Carolina Marin. The Indian ace lost to the Spanish giant in three games, 18-21, 21-19, 7-21.
The game which lasted for one hour and 13 minutes, Carolina surpassed the Sindhu challenge in a tightly contested game. While Sindhu lashed powerful smashes, but Marin’s brilliant net play, helped her cut down the errors and take an early lead in the game. The Indian pro took down her opponent to force the game into the decider, winning the set 21-19.
While the final game was in total control as Sindhu struggled to get a point in majority of the decider. But a one-sided game after two competitive set helped Carolina take a lead in her head-to-head battle and losing the game 1-2.
The two-time Olympic medallist, who endured a winless phase this season, had reached the semifinals of the Arctic Open Super 500 last week. However, her loss against Carolina now takes the head-to-head record to 11-5 in favour of the Spanish.
