India’s leading spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, called out a Sanju Samson fan for spreading fake news on Twitter. After Gujarat Titans traded Hardik Pandya with the Mumbai Indians, a rumour spread on Twitter, which claimed that five-time champions Chennai Super Kings were in talks with Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson and wanted to trade him to take over the captaincy from Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Ashwin’s response to the fake news is going viral on social media, where he schooled the fan for spreading rumours under his name. Ashwin replied to the viral tweet and said, “Fake news! Don’t lie quoting me.” Notably, a Sanju Samson fan had posted the news on his Twitter account stating that CSK wanted to trade Sanju Samson and cited Ashwin’s YouTube channel as its source.
The tweet read, “Ashwin on his YouTube channel – Sanju Samson was approached by CSK as a captain which was nearly finalised. But it didn’t go through Sanju rejected their offer. There’s a definite possibility in the future.” Notably, Ashwin has been retained by his franchise Rajasthan Royals for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League.
As the IPL 2024 auction is approaching, all 10 franchises released their retention list for the forthcoming season. All 10 franchises cumulatively retained 173 players. Talking about the Chennai-based franchise, MS Dhoni will once again lead the team in the next season of the cash-rich league.
