Batting sensation, Sarfaraz Khan is set to miss the initial matches for Mumbai in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The update was confirmed after the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) named the squad for the first two matches of the premier domestic tournament, the Ranji Trophy.

However, the Mumbai batter last featured in the side’s Irani Cup win at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Although the match was drawn with Mumbai posting 450-run lead before the teams called off the match and shook hands, Mumbai lifted their 15th Irani Cup title based on their first innings lead.

The 26-year-old, who scored an unbeaten 222 off 286 deliveries, will miss the opening match, where Mumbai is set to face Baroda from October 11 onwards. According to sources, as reported by India Today, the young batter will be at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru as the team gets ready to play three-match Test series against New Zealand.
The Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue are set to face New Zealand in a three-match Test series, starting from October 16. While the first Test is set to be played from October 16 to 20 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, followed by a match each from October 24 and November 1 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune and Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, respectively.
Speaking of Sarfaraz Khan’s numbers, the Mumbai batter made his debut earlier this year in the series against England. So far, he has played three Tests and has amassed 200 runs at an average of 50.00 and a strike rate of 79.36. His highest knock of 68* came in the third Test against England in Rajkot.
