Star Indian cricketers, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been named in Delhi's 84-player probable list for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The tournament, which is scheduled to kick start from October 11, will see Delhi commence their campaign against Chhattisgarh at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
Although a clarity on Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant’s participation still remains under cloud, the two have been named in the probable list for the domestic tournament. If Kohli gets a place in the team, he is set to mark his return after close to 12 years. Apart from the two star Indian players, out-of-favour bowler, Navdeep Saini has also been named in the side, while Ishant Sharma misses out.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) in its release on Tuesday, September 24 also addressed that “a fitness test for the selected players will take place on 26th September 2024”. However, in the later part of it, the DDCA communicated that the players who are on international duty, including the likes of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will be exempted from the fitness test.
Notably, this is the first time since 2018 that Kohli has been named in Delhi’s probable Ranji squad. The 35-year-old’s last appearance came in 2012-13 season, when he played against Uttar Pradesh after his international duties in series against New Zealand. Although his presence will bolster the side’s chances in the tournament, but he also has national commitments with New Zealand Test series and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 ahead.
