Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has returned to the Australian Big Bash League after making comments about boycotting the tournament earlier in 2023. Khan made startling statements slamming the Australian team for cancelling their ODI series against  Afghanistan after the  Taliban's ban on university education for girls in the country.

Addressing this decision,  Rashid Khan expressed displeasure and stated that he wouldn't make anyone in Australia with his presence in the BBL.  "I am really disappointed to hear that Australia have pulled out of the series to play us in March," Rashid said in a statement then.

"If playing Afghanistan is so uncomfortable for Australia, then I wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence in the BBL. Therefore, I will be strongly considering my future in that competition," Khan further added.

The official list of players available for the BBL overseas draft on  September 3,  will not be released until August 28. But AAP has quoted league sources confirming the 24-year-old has been included his name in the tournament. Alongside Rashid, other  Afghan players like Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmed and Izharulhaq Naveed have also nominated themselves for the draft after playing in Australia last summer.

Despite being available for the Big Bash, Rashid Khan could feature in only a select few games in the tournament as he is also a part of the MI Cape Town franchise in the South African SA20, beginning on January 10 . Hence, Khan could play i n at least the first seven games for the Adelaide Strikers.
