The runners-up of the previous edition, Sunrisers Hyderabad started their IPL 2025 campaign with a bang after they posted the second highest IPL 2025 in their opening match of the season against Rajasthan Royals. Batting first, SRH smashed a mammoth 286/6, falling short of just one run from their own record of 287/3 from the last season. However, the Orange Army couldn’t continue the same momentum as they lost their next two matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals respectively.
SRH Head Coach Daniel Vettori said that the team will not change their attacking approach in batting despite two back-to-back losses in the ongoing edition of IPL. Notably, SRH’s strategy backfired on them as they were restricted to 190/9 against LSG and were bowled out 163 runs in their next game against DC.
"There's no conversation around that [tempering down]. We definitely want to play an aggressive brand. If you look at our top three, that's how they play. They normally set the tone for the rest of us. Abhishek was unlucky tonight, Ishan and Travis, on a different day, may have hit those balls for six. We understand that when we play this way, there may be failures, but hopefully, we can come to the party and perform more often than not," Vettori was quoted as saying by Crictracker.
There have been very few teams that haven't lost two games in a row: Daniel Vettori
Speaking further, Daniel Vettori also reflected on SRH’s campaign in IPL 2025b so far. The Pat Cummins-led side won just one out of their three match in the ongoing season so far. Despite losing two matches, Vettori isn’t much concern about SRH’s form and is hopeful that they will make a comeback.
"If you look at the course of the 18 IPL seasons, there have been very few teams that haven't lost two games in a row, particularly early in the season when teams are learning their combinations, especially in the first year after a big auction. We don't want to be in this position, like any team, but we understand that every time we play, we come up against a very good team—well-planned teams with highly talented players," Vettori said.
"There's no reason why we can't just turn up and win. We've got to perform—that's the challenge for us after a very good first performance—and continue in the style we like. How we challenge ourselves to do it consistently is important," he further added.
