In a big update which follows the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) squad announcement for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who did not find a place in the side for the ODI series, has reported been rested. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Jadeja has been rested for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour and hasn’t been dropped.
However, multiple reports speculated that he has been dropped, thus questioning his future in the side after he called down curtains to his T20I career along with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after India’s much-awaited triumph at the T20 World Cup 2024.
However, the report further states that he remains in the scheme of things for the Champions Trophy. Moreover, Chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar during the press conference on Monday, July 22 confirmed that Jadeja has been rested and not dropped and is a key member in the Indian setup. "He has not been dropped from ODIs, he is definitely in scheme of things. As there are so many Tests ahead where he is going to feature in most of them, we gave him rest. Picking both Axar & Jadeja in this short ODI series was pointless," Agarkar quoted.
The 2025 Champions Trophy will serve as the next ICC major, and will also be Gautam Gambhir’s first major challenge as part of his coaching tenure as head coach. Although, India’s participation is still under clouds, the tournament is set to be played in February-March 2025 in Pakistan.
Yuzvendra Chahal kept on hold for 2025 Champions Trophy: Report
The report by ESPNcricinfo further added that the Indian spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal has to prove himself to find a place in the Indian team. In the last 19 months or so, the Indian spinner has only played an ODI game and as a result the selectors have kept Chahal on hold for the Champions Trophy.
The 33-year-old has been asked to prove his caliber in the domestic cricket after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mandated players to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy. With India next set to play three ODIs against England next year, Chahal will have a tough task to prove himself in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is scheduled to be held in December, to regain his place in the Indian squad for the next major ICC tournament.
