Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler, who has been sidelined from competitive cricket for the majority of the last one year due to injury, might not get retained by Gujarat Titans (GT) for the IPL 2025 season. If the one-time IPL champions take the tough decision to part ways with the 34-year-old, then it is likely that Royal Challengers Bengaluru go after Mohammed Shami in the mega auction to sign him.
Notably, Mohammed Shami missed out on playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024, and his lack of presence was felt by the franchise as they finished in eighth place after making two consecutive finals in the previous two editions. The right-arm fast bowler has picked up 48 wickets in 33 matches across two IPL seasons for Gujarat Titans, making a telling impact with the ball, especially in the power play overs.
Mohammed Shami is currently recovering from knee injury at the NCA in Bengaluru
But, with a big question mark on Mohammed Shami’s fitness ahead of the IPL 2025 season, the SportsTiger sources have learnt that it is highly unlikely for him to get retained by Gujarat Titans. If it turns out to be the case, then Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are expected to swoop in, and bid quite heavily for the Indian international in the upcoming mega auction with an intention of bringing him in the fold for the next season.
As of this writing, Mohammed Shami is currently rehabilitating from his knee injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after not getting picked for the upcoming Test tour to Australia. After playing a key role in India’s 2-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) successes in four Test matches down under in the last two editions, he will not be a part of the five-match Test series this time around.
Although, BCCI is reportedly hopeful about Mohammed Shami making complete recovery from his knee injury, and if it’s in time, then he could be a late addition to the Indian squad on the tour to Australia.
