After their brilliance against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad broke their record of the highest total in IPL history by scoring 287 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. This was also the second-highest score in T20s behind 314 by Nepal against Mongolia during Asian Games 2023.
After losing the toss, Sunrisers came out the bat and Travis Head took off from the first over. The Aussie southpaw smashed a 20-ball half-century and stitched up a 108-run stand in 8.1 overs before Abhishek Sharma got out. Then joining Head, the in-form Henrich Klaasen got out and continued this momentum forward.
The duo partnered up to post a 65-run stand in the space of four overs when Head completed his century in 38 balls. Then finishing things up for SRH, Klassen, Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad smashed vital cameos and helped post the record total of 287 runs.
Then in the second innings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru also started incredibly well and scored their joint-highest powerplay score of 79. But as Mayank Markande was brought on, he dismissed Virat Kohli and derailed the chase. After the fall of Kohli's wicket, RCB tried to maintain the mammoth run rate but lost wickets and was always behind the eight-ball.
Dinesh Karthik remained the last man fighting before getting out at 83 in 35 balls with five fours and seven sixes which wasn't enough as the Royal Challengers suffered a 25-run loss.
