Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, will be taking his team to yet another FA Cup quarter-finals later today at the Vitality Stadium on the south coast of England against Bournemouth, in his bid to get a step closer to another trophy. Ahead of the big match, when the 54-year-old was asked to rate his own work with Manchester City in the ongoing 2024-25 season, he had no hesitation in saying, “Really poor”.

Notably, in the current season, Manchester City are fifth place in the Premier League right now, behind Liverpool by a whopping 22 points, with that, they are not going to be able to defend their title in all likelihood with just nine matches remaining in the league. During the illustrious tenure of Pep Guardiola as Manchester City manager, the club have won the Premier League six times, while not finishing any season outside of the top three.

The opponents never gave us a red carpet to win the titles: Pep Guardiola

After conceding that he has done poorly with Manchester City this season, getting eliminated from the UEFA Champions League and the League Cup as well, Pep Guardiola talked about the struggles for the club in recent months. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “The opponents never gave us a red carpet to win the titles that we won in the past. My duty was to overcome the situation much better than I have done [this season].”

Meanwhile, the Spaniard was optimistic about Manchester City’s chances in the upcoming quarter-final of the FA Cup against Bournemouth later today. He remarked, “Of course it would be nice to arrive in the final of the FA Cup and win it, and qualify for the Champions League. That would be a big success but the season has been poor and it's not going to change.”

Ahead of the contest, the fitness of Ederson is a concern for Manchester City as he is experiencing abdominal pain, while the likes of John Stones, Nathen Ake, and Manuel Akanji are not available due to injuries.
