The Indian cricket team is set for an overhaul in T20Is and it is expected to start with the Sri Lanka series, set to begin in the first week of January. While Hardik Pandya is set to be announced as India’s next T20I captain, there are a few more changes on the line. According to reports doing the rounds, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are expected to be dropped from the Sri Lanka series while youngsters like Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are set to get a place in the squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be ‘resting’ the two players to accommodate Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson. Notably, Pant has been struggling to find his mojo in the shortest format. In fact, Pant has failed to replicate the same performance as the Indian Premier League (IPL). Therefore, the Indian cricket board now wants to try other wicketkeeper batters.
“Rishabh has done well in Tests and he is not out of form. But yes, he has not got many runs in T20s. He will be back in the ODI series. He is crucial for us in the Australia series. In T20s, we have quite a few options including Ishan and Sanju who are getting runs in domestic,” a BCCI official was quoted saying by InsideSport.
BCCI to announce squad on Tuesday
Coming to the squad announcement for the Sri Lanka series, the Indian cricket board will be revealing the names on Tuesday. With no selection committee appointed, the Chetan Sharma-led committee will be asked to select the squad.
“The old committee will select the Sri Lanka white ball squad. As of now, it doesn’t look like Rohit Sharma’s finger will heal enough before the T20Is and in that case, Hardik will lead the side. As far as KL Rahul is concerned, his T20I days seem to be numbered,” a BCCI source was quoted saying by PTI.
