Indian young batting all-rounder Riyan Parag dismissed Kamindu Mendis during the first T20I against Sri Lanka to record his first international wicket. On Saturday, July 27, India clashed against the Islanders for the first of the three-match T20I series at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy. India, the T20 World Cup 2024 champions, clashed headed into the series under new skipper Suryakumar Yadav and new head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
P arag, who bowled the 17th over, dismissed Mendis on the fourth delivery and recorded his first international wicket. Earlier, Dasun Shanaka had also got run out on the first delivery of the same over. Not only this, but the RR all-rounder dismissed Maheesh Theekshana in the last over before dismissing Dilshan Madhushanka. With bat, Parag couldn’t do much and managed to score only seven runs off six deliveries.
The RR cricketer finished with the figures of 1.2-0-5-3. Notably, this was Parag’s second international outing with team India. Talking about the match, India recorded a win by 43 runs, and newly-recruited captain as awarded Player of the Match. During the post-match ceremony, Yadav said, “They were playing a good brand of cricket from ball one. They were keeping the tempo, credit goes to them.”
He added, “We know how the wicket plays in the night. We were fortunate that there was no dew. The way we played in the World Cup, that reminded us that the game was still too far. (Left-right combination to be persisted?) Whatever works for the team, we'll take the call.”
