Former Indian cricketer Roger Binny, who was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, has been appointed as the 36th President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Roger was a key all-rounder for the Indian team in his playing days from 1979 to 1987.

Roger Binny made a mark by being involved in a 451-run unbeaten partnership with Sanjay Desai for the opening wicket in a Ranji match against Kerala in 1977-78. Roger Binny made his Test debut for India on 21st Nov 1979 against Pakistan at his birthplace in Bengaluru. In his debut game, he managed to score 46 runs with the bat. Binny was the leading wicket-taker in the 1983 World Cup tournament. He picked 18 wickets with the ball and played a crucial role in the Indian team which went on to script history.

In the league stage game against Australia in 1983 WC he recorded his best-ever ODI bowling figure of 4/29 and helped India to defeat the mighty Aussies by 118 runs. In addition, Roger Binny played a key role for India in the 1985 Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket as well by picking 9 wickets in the 4 ODIs that he played. India went on to lift the trophy on Australian soil as well by defeating Pakistan in the final game. Once again in the league stage match of that tournament Roger Binny took another four-wicket haul as India won that match by 6 wickets against arch-rivals Pakistan.

Roger Binny was part of the Indian team which won a test series on England soil in the year 1986. He took a five-wicket haul in Headingley stadium as India bundled out England for just 102. His bowling effort became a key reason to win the Headingley test match in 1986 and India ended up winning that series by 1-0 margin.

In his final Test series against Pakistan, Roger went onto record his best bowling figures of 6/56 in the Kolkata test match in 1987. His destructive bowling attack put the Pakistan team on backfoot completely as he went to record a bowling figure of 4/9 inside 5 overs and later went on to take only his second five-wicket haul in his test career after Headingley's test match in 1986.

Roger Binny also played a major role as coach of India's U-19 team in 2000 to lift the trophy. So many stars like Yuvraj Singh, and Mohammad Kaif emerged from the 2000 U-19 WC team for India in the later years. Roger Binny has served in several positions for KSCA since 2012 and in 2019 he became President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

Roger Binny's son Stuart Binny also represented India from 2014-2015 and he also played for the Karnataka state team as an all-rounder. He has represented Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians in the IPL as well. Currently, his son Stuart Binny holds the record for having the best bowling figure in ODIs by an Indian player.
