Former India cricketer Roger Binny has been appointed as BCCI President, succeeding former cricketer Sourav Ganguly at the helm. Binny was the frontrunner to replace Ganguly with some reports suggesting Jay Shah to take the chair of the BCCI.
Binny will start his reign as the President on 18 October during the BCCI Annual General meeting in Mumbai. However, Sourav Ganguly, who was asked to take on as IPL Chairman declined the offer and will no longer be with the board. Meanwhile Jay Shah is said to continue his role as the Secretary of the board, with Rajiv Shukla staying as the BCCI Vice-President.
As reported earlier, two more first-timers in Ashish Shelar and Devajit Saikia are set to take the charge with the BCCI. If reports are to be believed, the Mumbai Cricket Association President (2017 & 2019), Shelar is set to take the role of Treasurer, while current Assam Cricket Board Secretary in Saikia will join as Joint Secretary. Arun Dhumal is set to take the role as IPL Chairman after Ganguly declined the offer.
Talking about the 1983 World Cup winner, Binny has earlier held various posts with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and was also the President of the board.
