In the Ultimate Test, India were comprehensively beaten by Australia with a margin of 209 runs, during the morning session on day 5 at The Oval in London. In the immediate aftermath, Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of Team India, made a big remark about Rohit Sharma, the current Indian captain, about how he can get better as a leader in the upcoming tournaments for the country.

Coming into the first session of day 5, India, who were 164-3, needed a further 280 runs to win the WTC Final 2023. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane started the day steadily with the bat, while accumulating runs at every given opportunity.

But, at the half hour mark, Scott Boland struck a double blow, removing Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja within three balls to put a major dent in India’s chances of chasing down 444-run target. Ajinkya Rahane did resist the opposition bowlers for some time, without much help from batters at the non-striker’s end. But, shortly afterward, the entire batting line-up was bundled out for 234 runs to hand the Australians the World Test Championship title.

While appearing on the post-match show on Star Sports, the Prince of Kolkata talked about what Rohit Sharma needs to do in the near future as India cricket team captain. Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying, “Rohit Sharma needs to learn from MS Dhoni.” Furthermore, he praised one of his successors and said, “Dhoni took pressure and got us 2011 World Cup.”

Notably, India are going to play a couple of major tournaments in the ODI format in the later half of 2023. Firstly, they will take part in the Asia Cup during the month of September in foreign conditions. And then, during October and November, they will participate in the home Cricket World Cup for the first-time in 12 years. In 2011, MS Dhoni had led India to their second world title in the ODI format, after hitting a winning six against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
