On Thursday, June 27, the Rohit Sharma-led Team India defeated reigning champions, England and knocked them out of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The Men in Blue, who are yet to lose a match in the tournament, continued their winning streak after knocking out the likes of Australia and England and will next take on South Africa in the summit clash.
During the do-or-die match of the T20 World Cup 2024, it was the Jos Buttler-led side who won the toss and elected to bowl first. After inviting the Men in Blue to put the score on the board despite rain threat looming over the match, India put up 171 runs on the board, courtesy a 57-run knock from skipper Rohit Sharma, along with Suryakumar Yadav’s 36-ball 47.
Star Indian batter Virat Kohli once again failed to get going and was cleaned up by Reece Topley. Despite registering a low score in the crucial game, Rohit Sharma stood by the batting stalwart and backed him to come good in the finale. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma said, “Look, he (Virat Kohli) is a quality player, any player can go through that.”
“Form is never a problem when you play for 15 years. I guess he is saving it for the final,” he further added ahead of the summit clash of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Rohit, who continued his sublime form in the tournament, in the post-match presentation also opened up on India’s plans going ahead in the tournament. “We have been very calm as a team. We understand the occasion (final), it’s a big occasion. For us it’s important we keep calm. Staying composed helps you make good decisions and that’ll be required. We got to keep making good decisions throughout the 40 overs. That'll help us making the game through,” Rohit said.
