Indian skipper Rohit Sharma made his return to the top 5 of men’s batting rankings. This is the first time since September 2021 that Sharma has secured his berth within top five spots of rankings. Apart from him, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli also strengthened their positions in the latest rankings charts updated by the International Cricket Council. Notably, team India has not played a single Test match since March 2024, when they locked horns with England in the five-match series at home.

However, despite that, Rohit Sharma, Kohli and Jaiswal advanced one spot each to solidify their position among the top 10 batters. Notably, Rohit is the highest ranked Indian batter, positioned at the fifth spot with a total of 751 rating points. Jaiswal and Kohli closely followed him at the sixth and seventh spots respectively with 740 and 737 points. The Indian duo has benefitted from Harry Brook’s failures against Sri Lanka, where he could only score 19 and 3 runs in two innings. Owing to his poor knock, Brook has slipped seven spots to be at the 12th spot with 709 points.

Team Sri Lanka rises in ICC rankings after defeating England in third Test

Six Sri Lankan players saw a rise in their ratings on the latest ICC Men’s Test Rankings and attained new career-high rankings after their victory over England in the third Test at The Oval. Sri Lanka, led by Dhananjaya de Silva, registered their first ever Test win over England away from home in the third Test of their three-match series. De Silva, who emerged as the side's top-scorer in the first innings, gained three places to move to the 13th spot.

On the other hand, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka also found their new career-best rankings. Mendis saw a jump of six spots to reach the 19th spot while the latter jumped to a whopping 42 spots to acquire the 39th spot after his brilliant knocks of 64 and 127.
