Top-order batter Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian T20I team against South Africa in the three-match series starting on December 10 in  Kingsmead, Durban. In the ODIs, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul is set to captain the Men in Blue in the three-game series after the T20Is.

The development was confirmed by Indian Express, who also revealed that Virat Kohli, India's number three batter, will not be part of the white-ball leg of the tour but will play the two Test matches starting in late December. The Test will start on December 26 in SuperSport Park, Centurion. The second red-ball fixture is scheduled for January 3 in Newlands, Cape Town.

The Indian Express quoted a source stating that Kohli needs some time off from white-ball cricket and has informed BCCI that he let them know about his return to the national white-ball teams in due time.  The source quoted by Indian Express said, “He (Kohli) has informed the BCCI and selectors that he needs a break from white-ball cricket and he will get back to them about when he wants to play white-ball cricket next.

At the moment he has informed the BCCI that he will be playing red-ball cricket, which means he is available for selection for the two Test matches in South Africa,” the source further added.
