Rohit Sharma, the Indian Test and ODI captain, is reportedly going to miss one Test against Australia in the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series down under. As per the sources, it is understood that Rohit Sharma has spoken to the BCCI officials about a possibility of missing one of the two Test matches versus the reigning WTC champions in the beginning of the series this November, due to a personal reason.

Notably, the first Test of the five-match Test series between Australia and India will happen at the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 onwards. Following that, the second Test match, which will be a day-night affair, is going to begin on December 6, at the Adelaide Oval, and after that, the next three Test matches will be going down at the Gabba (December 14-18), Melbourne Cricket Ground (December 26-30), and Sydney Cricket Ground (January 3-7).

Rohit Sharma has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility of him missing a Test in Australia

According to the report in PTI, a BCCI source told them on the condition of anonymity about the situation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s status for the upcoming BGT series against Australia down under. He stated, “There isn't any complete clarity about the situation. It is understood that Rohit has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility that due to a pressing personal matter, he might have to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series.”

“In case, the personal issue is sorted before the start of the series, he might play all five Tests. We will get to know more in coming days,” the BCCI source further commented. Moreover, with Rohit Sharma’s potential unavailability for at least one Test match against Australia, the Indian team management will be needing to appoint a deputy to him since there wasn’t any player named as the vice-captain for the recently concluded Test series for India against Bangladesh.
