On Saturday, February 15, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) confirmed that their star all-rounder Shreyanka Patil, who played a key role for the team in winning the Women’s Premier League (WPL) title last year, has been ruled out of the ongoing 2025 edition of the tournament, due to a shin injury. The 22-year-old has been replaced in the RCB squad by veteran Sneh Rana, who had initially missed out on being contracted by any of the five franchises in the league.
Notably, in the WPL 2024, Shreyanka Patil was a vital member of the RCB’s title-winning campaign as she picked up 13 wickets in just eight matches in the tournament. She won the coveted Purple Cap for most wickets in a WPL season last year after taking four wickets in the high stakes final against Delhi Capitals (DC), but now, she is on the injury list for RCB alongside Asha Sobhana and Sophie Molineux.
Can’t wait to see you play in the Red Blue and Gold next year: RCB to Shreyanka Patil
The WPL released an official statement to confirm that Shreyanka Patil has been replaced by Sneh Rana in the RCB squad. It read, “Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday picked Sneh Rana as a replacement for Shreyanka Patil for the remainder of the TATA Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025. Shreyanka, who has played 15 matches for RCB and has scalped 19 wickets, is ruled out of the third edition of the WPL due to an injury. Rana, who is an all-rounder, has previously played for Gujarat Giants (GG) in the TATA WPL. She joined RCB for INR 30 Lakh.”
Shortly after, RCB took to their official X account to wish Shreyanka Patil all the best for her recovery from shin injury, and hoped for her to come back stronger in the next season of the WPL. They wrote, “Challenges are tough, Shrey. But you’re tougher! We know how hard you tried to get fit before #WPL2025 and how badly you’ll miss being a part of our campaign, and we will carry your energy and spirit with us on the field as well! Get well soon and come back stronger! Can’t wait to see you play in the Red Blue and Gold of RCB next year.”
Moreover, her replacement, Sneh Rana has played 12 matches across two seasons of the WPL, captaining Gujarat Giants (GT) in two matches last season in the absence of their regular captain.
