On the eve of the Indian Premier League 2024 opener, a social media post created a massive uproar which included all captains, leading the 10 franchises this season. Here, the official account of the IPL revealed that Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was named the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, replacing MS Dhoni.
The Chennai Super Kings attempted a change in captaincy in IPL 2022 when they brought in Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the captain. But after a dismal start, Dhoni returned as the skipper of the side. In the tweet shared by the IPL, the caption said, " Presenting @ChennaiIPL 's Captain - @Ruutu1331."
Ruturaj Gaikwad replaces MS Dhoni as CSK captain
The official statement about this captaincy change, released by the Chennai Super Kings said, " MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of TATA IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period. The team looks forward to the upcoming season."
It should be Rutu: Rayudu picked Gaikwad as next CSK captain
Former India and Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu, last year expressed that the 26-year-old Ruturaj Gaikwad should be the next CSK captain after MS Dhoni. Speaking on ' The Ranveer Show', "I think, ideally it should be Rutu (Ruturaj Gaikwad). But let's see," Rayudu said.
