Former India cricketer S Sreesanth was booked in an ₹18.7 lakh cheating case by a Kerala man named Sareesh Gopalan. Police have filed a cheating case against Sreesanth, along with two other men, named Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini on the basis of a complaint made by a man based in Kerala’s Kannur district. The complainant alleged that Rajiv and Venkatesh took ₹18.7 lakh from him on several dates, starting on April 29, 2019.
The accused had claimed that they would build a sports academy in Kollur, Karnataka, where Sreesanth holds a partnership. In his complaint, Gopalan said that he invested money after being offered an opportunity to partner in the academy. Sreesanth and his partners have been charged under IPC Section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).
According to the complainant, Rajiv Kumar, and Venkatesh Kini met him in 2019 and took the money from him after promising him 5 cents of land along with a villa on it. When there was no development, Gopalan was told that Sreesanth was building a cricket academy on the said land.
Later, the former India cricketer himself met the complainant and promised to build him a villa as a part of the project. Not only this but he was also offered a partnership in the academy. However, Gopalan said that he didn’t hear anything from the cricketer and his partners, and hence, decided to file a complaint before the Kannur First Class Magistrate.
