South Africa secured a five-wicket win over Afghanistan in their last league match of the ODI World Cup 2023. Temba Bavuma’s Proteas locked horns with Hashmatullah Shahidi’s side in a thrilling fixture on November 10, Friday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first, the South Asian team posted a below-par total of 244 runs on the scoreboard.

Earlier, Shahidi had won the toss and invited the rivals to field first. In what could turn out to be a lop-sided match owing to South Africa’s lethal bowling, Azmatullah Omarzai held his nerves and played a brilliant and critical inning of 97* runs to get his side beyond 200-run total. Other than him, the Afghans put up a disappointing show with bat.
Shahidi and Co. seemingly surrendered to the fatal bowling techniques by the Proteas as Gerald Coetzee went on to pick four wickets for his side. After bundling out their South Asian counterparts, Bavuma and Co. took to the field in the second inning to close the game as early as possible.
While the top and middle batting order of their side delivered a decent performance, Rassie van der Dussen once again remained the star of the show as he scored 76* runs off 95 balls. With their continued dominance, South Africa registered a five-wicket win over Afghanistan and ended their league stage games on a high.
