South Africa registered a massive win by 32 runs and an inning over India to take a 1-0 lead in the two-game series. Veteran Proteas batter Dean Elgar started for the Rainbow Nation with his magnificent 185 in 287 balls with 28 boundaries. After winning the toss, South Africa invited the Men in Blue to bat and dominated from the word go.
The Indian team lost quick wickets and the responsibility was on the shoulders of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer as the duo scored crucial 30s. Though Iyer and Kohli soon departed, KL Rahul held one end up and carried the Indian total to 245. He scored a stunning 101 in 137 balls with 14 fours and four sixes.
The South African innings also had a difficult start but Dean Elgar, playing his farewell Test series, controlled the game. After some support from Tony de Zorzi, Elgar and David Bedingham, stabilised the South African innings. Though Bedingham departed after a debut half-century, Elgar stitched a game-changing stand with Marco Jansen, who remained not out at 84, as the Proteas posted a massive 408-run score.
Then with the ball, the hosts continued their dominance in Centurian and ran through the Indian batting lineup. The Men in Blue were bundled out at a score of 131 with Virat Kohli emerging as the lone warrior and posting a hard-fought 76 in 82 balls. With the ball, debutant Nandre Burger picked up 4-33 while Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen combined to scalp five wickets.
