Kuwait will square off against Bangladesh in the high voltage semi-final of the SAFF Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore, Karnataka. In the group stage, Kuwait finished at the top of Group A while Bangladesh are placed second in Group B to qualify for the semifinals.
Kuwait have had a stunning, unbeaten run in the championship so far as they won both their opening games 3-1 and 4-0 against Nepal and Pakistan respectively. The only game they couldn’t win was their last league game, which was against hosts India. As a result, Kuwait joint-topped the group with India. Manager Rui Bento will be desperate to win this crucial knockout match and advance to the championship game which will be held on Tuesday night.
Coming into the SAFF Championship, Bangladesh won against Seychelles and Cambodia in friendly matches. The Bangla Tigers have won two and lost one game each. They got off to a rocky start as they were decimated 2-0 by Lebanon in their opening game of the season. But they came back remarkably and won both their next matches 3-1 against Bhutan and Maldives. Bangladesh will be eager to get their hands on silverware for the second time, after a long gap of 20 years.
