Nepal will square off against India in the SAFF Championships match on Saturday night at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore, Karnataka.
Nepal lost their opening match against Kuwait in the tournament on Wednesday. Despite Anjan Bista’s stunner in the 68th minute, they lost the game 3-1. With still two games to go in the tournament, against India and Pakistan respectively, Nepal can certainly hope to make a comeback and finish in the top 2.
Talking about host nation India, they had a great outing against arch-rivals Pakistan in the opener. The Indians obliterated Pakistan as the scoreline read 4-0 by the end of the match. A hat-trick of the highest class from skipper Sunil Chhetri made sure that India were always in the driver’s seat. The 38-year-old Chhetri scored his 90th international goal in 138 games and became the fourth leading goal-scorer in international football, just below Cristiano Ronaldo (123), Ali Daei (109) and Lionel Messi (103).
