Sarfaraz Khan has been one of the new entrants in the Indian colours after he was handed a debut in the third Test against England in Rajkot. In his debut match, the 26-year-old made waves as he became the fourth Indian cricketer to register a half-century in each innings. While he scored 62 runs in the first inning, he scored an unbeaten 68 in his second inning at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
However, he put up a brilliant performance, news around him going unsold at the IPL 2024 auction surfaced again. With form being on his side, reports have emerged that several IPL franchises have their eyes on him, especially Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.
With Shreyas Iyer struggling with injury, Kolkata Knight Riders are the front runners to rope in the services of Sarfaraz Khan. According to a report published by Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, Sarfaraz Khan is being scouted by KKR. It further says that Gautam Gambhir, who is the mentor of the Kolkata-based franchise has already given a go-ahead in order to strengthen their middle-order.
Apart from KKR, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings are also vying to sign in Khan. Other than KKR and CSK, Royal Challengers Bangalore are also in a battle to sign the 26-year-old.
With the trade window open till the start of IPL 2024, a franchise can only sign a player after the IPL auction, only if an existing member of the squad is injured or withdraws from the tournament before the season starts.
It is to be noted that the Mumbai batter has so far made 50 appearances in IPL between 2015 and 2023. While he represented RCB from 2015 and 2023, he failed to get many opportunities to feature in the XI. Before that, he played from Punjab Kings between 2019 and 2021 before joining Delhi Capitals.
