Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, reclaimed the second spot in the latest released BWF rankings. Previously fifth-ranked pair climbed three spots to secure the second position in the charts. Satwik-Chirag recently failed to cross the final hurdle at the China Masters 2023 and hence, missed clinching their fourth BWF title of the season. They had lost the final to China’s world no. 1 pair of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in three games.
In October, they became the first Indian pair, across all three doubles categories, to be ranked No.1 in the world. They had overtaken the Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto as well as China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang to reach the summit.
However, after their first-round exits at the Denmark Open and Japan Masters as well as the French Open second-round defeat, Sat-Chi slipped to the number fifth spot. Now, they have climbed back three spots to the second spot behind Liang and Wang after showcasing a magnificent performance at the recently concluded tournament.
Talking about their season, 2023 proved to be a year of many firsts for the Indian shuttlers. They won the Swiss Open, Indonesia Open, Korea Open, and the Asian Games gold medal. In women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are India's highest-ranked pair, securing the 19th spot.
