According to reports, Shreyas Iyer has decided to opt out of Mumbai’s final group-stage match in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Reports say that Iyer wants to focus on the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, starting February 6. Mumbai is slated to play against Meghalaya at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai. Besides, Iyer, two other Indian star players, Rohit Sharma (Indian captain) and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also opted out of the game.
“(Shreyas) Iyer won’t be playing the next Ranji Trophy game as he will be preparing for white-ball cricket, so are (Rohit) Sharma and (Yashasvi) Jaiswal,” a source affiliated to the Mumbai Cricket Association stated. Notably, all three Indian cricketers failed to perform against Jammu and Kashmir, which the hosts eventually lost by five wickets. Iyer was the only one of the three to reach double figures twice.
The Mumbai team is third in Group A and will need to win and get into the knockout stages. The team presently has 22 points after three victories, two ties, and one loss.
Iyer keen to find his right form ahead of England ODIs

However, all three players will return to Nagpur in the first week of February. While the first ODI is scheduled to be played on February 6 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, followed by two more ODIs.
