Shreyas Iyer recently expressed a lot of gratitude towards coaches Pravin Amre and Abhishek Nayar for their unwavering support during challenging times in his cricketing career. In an interview, Iyer highlighted how these mentors have been instrumental since his early days, providing massive guidance irrespective of his career's highs and lows. Iyer's cricketing journey includes significant collaborations with both these mentors. He worked with Amre during his tenure with the Delhi Capitals and with Nayar while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 and 2024 IPL seasons. Abhishek Nayar who is a former Indian cricketer, has also joined the Indian national team’s coaching staff under Gautam Gambhir.
Nayar is the current batting coach of the Indian men’s cricket team and continues to work with Iyer, further strengthening their professional bond. Shreyas Iyer is not the only player who has heaped praises about the assistant coach. KKR player Venkatesh Iyer has also spoken publicly about the impact and influence of Abhishek Nayar in the team’s camp.
After Champions Trophy success, all eyes on IPL now for Iyer
Shreyas Iyer recently showcased his batting prowess in the Champions Trophy 2025, scoring 243 runs in five innings and emerging as the tournament's second-highest run-scorer. He was one of the most consistent performers in the Indian side and played a pivotal role in India's success in the competition. In the mega-auction of the IPL 2025, Iyer was picked by the Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore which made him the most expensive player in IPL history.
He has been appointed as the team's captain, and will aim to lead the franchise to new heights. Fans will hope that he carries his form from the recent Champions Trophy into the upcoming IPL season.
