Young Indian batter Tilak Varma on Saturday, November 23 etched his name in history books as he became the first-ever batter to score three consecutive hundreds in T20 cricket. The 22-year-old, who is leading Hyderabad, scored 151 off just 67 deliveries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024 in match against Meghalaya at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium C in Rajkot.
Moreover, with his fiery knock, Varma also became the first Indian to achieve a 150-plus score in a T20 match. Speaking of his T20 centuries, his third successive century followed back-to-back hundreds against South Africa in the recently-concluded four-match T20I series.

Playing for Hyderabad, Varma’s innings of 151 saw him smash 14 boundaries and ten maximums at a strike rate of 225.37. With his batting prowess, along with a 23-ball 55 from Tanmay Agarwal, Hyderabad registered a comfortable 179-run win over Meghalaya to open their SMAT 2024 campaign on a winning note.
It is to be noted that the 22-year-old batter is coming after a brilliant performance in India’s series win against South Africa. His exploits in South Africa helped in climb to the third spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings, making him the top ranked Indian batter in the list. Tilak Varma trails only behind Travis Head of Australia and Phil Salt of England in the batting rankings in the shortest format of the game.
