Cricket South Africa on Tuesday, September 3 announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. While Laura Wolvaardt will continue to lead the Proteas Women, it will noticeably her first T20 WC as captain. The side have also included 18-year-old uncapped leg-spinner, Seshnie Naidu for the marquee tournament, which is scheduled to be played in the UAE in October 2024. 

It is to be noted that the leg-spinner makes it to the side on the back of an impressive U19 performances. Moreover, former South Africa captain, Sune Luus will continue to feature in the side, adding to the experience alongside Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka and Chloe Tryon. Notably, Nadine de Klerk has also been named in the 15-member squad with an expectation to be fit by the tournament from her Achilles injury. 

CSA Proteas Women Convenor of Selectors Clinton du Preez said, "Laura (Wolvaardt) has been exceptional as a leader, bringing a holistic approach to the team. She leads with respect and integrity, and we are excited to see her leadership and playing qualities shine at the World Cup.”

Highlighting the inclusion of the 18-year-old uncapped player, Clinton du Preez said, Seshnie Naidu has shown significant growth as a bowler within our camps, and we see her as an X-factor for the World Cup. She brings a unique element to our bowling attack, offering something different that could be pivotal.”

It is to be noted that South Africa has been placed in Group B alongside England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Scotland. The Laura Wolvaardt-led side will begin their campaign on October 4 in a clash against West Indies, followed by a match against England (October 7), Scotland (October 9), and Bangladesh (October 12).
