Just three days after the newly elected Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief came into power, the Sports Ministry of India has suspended the entire body.

It is being further reported that this step by the Sports Ministry came after the newly elected President failed to follow the provisions of the constitution of the WFI. The former WFI Chief’s aide announced that the U-15 and U-20 nationals will be held in Nandini Nagar in Gonda (UP) before the year ends, early on December 24. It is to be noted that Gonda is the home town of the former WFI Chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan.

The body will remain suspended until further orders, as informed by the PTI.

Earlier, Sanjay Singh’s being pronounced the WFI head had massive uproar among the wrestlers of India. While Sakshi Malik quit wrestling following Singh’s being named the WFI Chief, fellow athlete and Olympic medallist  Bajrang Punia left his Padma Shri outside the PM’s residence in Delhi.

Recently on December 23, 2005 Summer Deaflympics gold medal winner Virender Singh Yadav said that he would also return his Padma Shri award. “I will also return the Padma Shri for my sister and the country’s daughter, Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, I am proud of your daughter and my sister Sakshee Malikkh… But I would also request the top players of the country to also give their decision,” he wrote in a post on X.
