Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister, Roshan Ranasinghe has sacked the entire Sri Lanka cricket board days after team’s humiliating 302-run loss against the host nation, India at the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, things took an uncertain turn post the Kusal Mendis-led side’s thrashing at the hands of India at the Wankhede Stadium on November 2. The Sri Lanka Sports Minister issued a notice suspending the executive committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, to investigate findings on the audit report on the conduct of the board officials during the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

“Sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe has formed an interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket,” the Sports Minister’s office said in a statement as quoted by the Indian Express. It is to be further added that Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mohan de Silva resigned on Saturday, November 4, who apparently held the second-highest position in the broad after fans protested outside SLC’s headquarters.

Arjuna Ranatunga appointed an Interim Chairman of SLC

The Sports Minister has however, appointed Arjuna Ranatunga, the former Sri Lanka captain to have led the side to 1996 World Cup title as the board’s interim chairman. In a media release from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Roshan Ranasinghe has formed an interim committee consisting of seven members.

The seven-member committee will be head by Arjuna Ranatunga as the Chairman, and also comprises of three retired judges, two from the Supreme Court and one from the High Court.

It is to be noted that Sri Lanka will next take on Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on November 6, followed by a match against 2019 finalists, New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on November 9.
