On Monday, July 22, Sumit Nagal, the top-ranked Indian tennis player, registered an epic comeback win against the Serbian Lukas Klein in the Austrian Open in Kitzbuhel. After both the players traded one set each, Nagal managed to stop Klein from serving out the set and the match before winning it with a scoreline of 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(7-3).

In the early stages of the first set, Lukas Klein got the early break of serve, but then, Sumit Nagal converted two break points, to take it 6-4. The second set saw Klein play some of his best tennis on tour, achieving two breaks of serve before taking it 6-1, and at one point, Nagal nearly got served a bagel.

The third and final set was a keenly contested affair, starting with Lukas Klein managing to break the serve of Sumit Nagal on the fourth attempt. Klein had the great opportunity to serve out the set and match in the 10th game, but Nagal dug deep to secure the all-important break of serve.

In the tie-breaker, Sumit Nagal was quite clinical in his play, managing to keep Lukas Klein behind the eight ball before winning the third set and the match 7-6(7-3). In the round of 16 of the Austrian Open, Sumit Nagal is slated to face Pedro Martinez of Spain, who received a bye in the opening round.

Notably, after the completion of the Austrian Open, Sumit Nagal will be playing for India in the men’s singles competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
