Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has sent a warning to the Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, to not take Bangladesh lightly in the upcoming two-match Test series starting next month at home. The 37-year-old spoke about how Bangladesh have some good players who have performed well in the Test arena for a long time.
Notably, India are slated to play the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 onwards. The second and final Test of the series will be going down at the Green Park in Kanpur, starting on September 27 before the hosts shift their focus to New Zealand, against whom they will be playing a three-match Test series in October.
You cannot take Bangladesh lightly as they have a fine spin bowling attack: Suresh Raina
During an interview with the ANI, Suresh Raina talked about the prospect of India taking on Bangladesh in a two-match Test series next month, and said “Now, a team for Tests will be formed. Top players playing Duleep Trophy is a nice initiative by the BCCI. You get to know a lot of things when you play red-ball cricket. You cannot take Bangladesh lightly as they have a fine spin bowling attack and some good players who have done well for a long time. This series will be a fine match practice for the tour to Australia.”
It is important to note that Bangladesh have defeated Pakistan for the first-time in Test cricket earlier this month in away conditions. They registered a comprehensive 10-wicket win over the hosts at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium after being down and out for the first half of the Test match.
The second and final Test of the series between Pakistan and Bangladesh got under way on Friday, August 30, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium without any play being possible on day one due to persistent rain.
