Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian middle order batter, who hasn’t yet set the stage alight in the ODI format for the national side, got out cheaply in the first ODI against West Indies on July 27, Thursday. It led to Aakash Chopra on the commentary booth with JioCinema, pointing out that the 32-year-old has lost his opportunity to make a big impression on the selectors in the lead-up to the home ODI World Cup.

Notably, the Mumbai-born cricketer was taking part in his first match in the 50-overs format, after three consecutive golden ducks against Australia during the home series in March of this year. The lack of runs in the ODIs has been a huge worry for SKY, who is eyeing a spot in the quadrennial event for the first-time later this year.

At the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, the left-arm orthodox bowler Gudakesh Motie managed to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav in the 11th over of the Indian innings, while chasing the modest target of 115 runs. It was a fuller length delivery from the West Indies spinner, which pitched on middle and off stump to straighten down the line. SKY went for his trademark sweep shot, but the bat didn’t connect with the ball, which led to the umpire giving him out leg before wicket.

As Suryakumar Yadav walked back to the pavilion with 19 runs off 25 deliveries, which included three fours and one six, Aakash Chopra in the JioCinema commentary booth said, “Suryakumar Yadav has lost the opportunity.”

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Team India were clinical with the ball against the hosts, dismissing them for mere 114 runs, after captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. The spin twins Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja wreaked havoc on the West Indies batting lineup, picking up four and three wickets, respectively.
