On Saturday, July 27, India scored a massive total of 213/7 against Sri Lanka in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. The Indian top order put the Sri Lanka bowling to the sword right throughout their innings, with the captain Suryakumar Yadav going past his fifty, which led to a plethora of fan reactions on X.
After being put into bat first by the Sri Lankan captain, Charith Asalanka, the Indian opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill scored 74 runs in the powerplay. But Gill (34 off 16) and Jaiswal (40 off 21) lost their wickets in back-to-back deliveries either side of powerplay, which brought Sri Lanka back into the contest.
But then, the captain Suryakumar Yadav (58 off 26) and Rishabh Pant (49 off 33) stitched together a 76-run stand for the third wicket, to put India in a commanding position. Matheesha Pathirana, who was brought into the attack in the second half of the innings, picked up four wickets in quick succession, ensuring that India didn’t continue at the 12 rpo in the latter half of their innings, finishing up with 213/7 in their allotted overs.
