The final of the T20 World Cup 2024 was played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Saturday, June 29 between South Africa and India. Both teams entered the final without losing a match in the month-long tournament, but it was the Rohit Sharma-led side who finally tasted victory, winning the match by a margin of seven runs.
Although billions of Indian fans were on their feet, lauding the efforts of the team, which remained unbeaten throughout the tournament for the first-time, some even hailed the performances of players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, among others. But as the tournament culminated, the International Cricket Council (ICC) also awarded the record prize money that was decided for the T20 World Cup.
With the T20 World Cup seeing manifold increase in its prize pool since its inception in 2007, the winner, that is Team India, will take home INR 20.37 Cr, whereas the Runners-up, South Africa will return with a hefty sum of INR 10.64 Cr. The semifinals, which were Afghanistan and England this year will take INR 6.48 Cr each.
