Tajinderpal Singh Toor, the Asian shot-put champion, and Commonwealth Games medallist in high jump Tejaswin Shankar, will not compete in the next World Athletics Championships 2023, which will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19 to 27.

Due to a groin injury, Tajinderpal Singh Toor withdrew from the 2023 World Athletics Championships. He sustained this injury in July while competing at the Asian Championships. He raised 20.23 metres to win the gold medal, but he also got hurt. Tajinderpal Singh Toor will miss the world championships for the second time in a row due to injury. Due to another groin injury, the Indian shot putter withdrew from the Eugene competition last year at the last minute.

Tejaswin Shankar, who holds the record for the highest jump in the country, 800m runner KM Chanda, and 20-kilometer walker Priyanka Goswami have also made the decision not to compete in the 2023 World Athletics Championships. They withdrew in order to concentrate on the Asian Games in Hangzhou, which will take place from September 23 to October 8. Additionally, javelin thrower Rohit Yadav is not participating because of an elbow injury, he sustained last month.

Tejaswin Shankar competes in the men's decathlon as well and earned a spot in the men's high jump competition at the world championships based on global rankings. He holds the high jump national record for India.

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will serve as the captain of India's 28-person team at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. When the Indian javelin thrower won silver in the men's javelin throw competition in Oregon last year, he ended India's 19-year medal drought at the World Athletics Championships. Avinash Sable of the steeplechase, Jyothi Yarraji of the hurdles, and Murali Sreeshankar of the long jump will also compete.
