Taskin Ahmed, the Bangladesh fast bowler, can make his return to Test cricket for the national team if he man ages his workload, insisted the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physio, Bayjedul Islam. He also spoke about the need for Taskin Ahmed to try and bowl longer spells, to play Tests for the national team after he took a break from the format some time ago.
Notably, Taskin Ahmed suffered a shoulder injury recently, which led to him sending a letter to the BCB, asking them to not consider him for the Bangladesh Test team. The 29-year-old wanted to play just white-ball cricket for the time being, but after some decent performances in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Lanka Premier League (LPL), he is looking forward to being a part of the national team in the longest format of the game.
During the ongoing national preparatory camp for the two-match Test series against Pakistan, Taskin Ahmed practised alongside the Test probables for Bangladesh. The first of the two Test matches of the series will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from August 21 onwards, while the second Test will go down at the National Stadium in Karachi from August 30 onwards.
Bayjedul Islam spoke in detail about Taskin Ahmed’s fitness after the practice session of the Bangladesh probables for the upcoming Test series. He said, as per Cricbuzz, “Taskin has played in the T20 format of late. So, he did not bowl for long spells during this period. He had a shoulder issue, which he even got rechecked during the T20 World Cup. The thing is, the damage he had at that time, is exactly the same now as it has not aggravated. A player can play by managing these [types of injuries]. If he continues his rehabilitation and the workouts, Taskin is definitely available (for Tests).”
“But as for bowling workload in Tests where you need to bowl longer spells, a player needs to get up to that speed. So, he will try to do that and if he feels better then he can definitely play in Tests,” he added.
