American pop star Taylor Swift was left blown away by the grand Santiago Bernabeu during her Madrid chapter of The Eras Tour. The home ground of Real Madrid hosted one of the two shows of Swift’s ongoing tour on May 29. Swift will perform at the venue once more on May 30. During the Wednesday concert, the ‘Love Story’ singer seemed to be amazed by the size and infrastructure of the newly renovated stadium. Notably, after the renovation, the capacity of the stadium increased from 81,000 to 85,000.
Regarded as one of the best stadiums in the world, Bernabeu left Swift totally astounded and she said, “Wow, this place is huge. It just goes up and up and up. I haven’t got to look at a Spanish crowd in 13 years but we’re back!” The last time Swift performed in Madrid was in 2011, and during this year’s tour, Bernabeu would be her only stop in Spain.
Blake Lively, Haim Sisters among audience cheering for Taylor Swift at Bernabeu
During her concert in Madrid, several popular names including Blake Lively and the Haim sisters were seen cheering for Taylor in the crowd. Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds had earlier said he planned to attend the concert in Madrid, however, he was not spotted at Bernabeu. According to Swift’s Eras Tour schedule, the American singer-songwriter will perform at other football stadiums, including Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium, Wembley, and the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Coming back to Bernabeu, one of the unique features of the remodeled stadium is a retractable roof and a new pitch removal and storage system. The pitch is housed in six underground levels and has irrigation and UV lighting to maintain the good quality of grass.
