After a humiliating 0-3 defeat in the home Test series against New Zealand, India are now set to travel to Australia for a five-match Test series down under. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy ( BGT) will kick start on November 22 where India will aim to repeat the last two-time heroics in Australia. However, the Men in Blue recently received a big setback after being whitewashed at home against New Zealand for the first time in history. Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan also raised questions regarding India’s ongoing form in red-ball cricket.
India have now slipped to second position in the World Test Championship 2023-25 points table after a series whitewash vs New Zealand. Now, Rohit Sharma and his men need to defeat Australia by down under to confirm their qualification for the WTC final at Lords in 2025. Apart from that, India will also look to avoid a Test series loss against Australia after 10 years.
I hope they do, I fear they won't: Michael Vaughan backs star Indian players ahead of BGT
In his latest interview, Michael Vaughan revealed that senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma need to make big runs in the upcoming BGT to assure India of a series win down under. "The one thing that India are going to require to win here in Australia is Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli getting big runs and getting back to their best. I hope they do, I fear they won't," Vaughan was quoted as saying by India Today.
"I fear that they might just be over the edge and when you face an Australian attack that is up there with the greatest that has ever played the game in their own backyard, you've got to arrive here with solid technique and you've got to arrive with amazing mentality," the former cricketer added.
